Specializing in Contemporary & Smooth Jazz, Smooth R&B, Latin, Soul and Old School music. Reformed at the start of 2000 by original Europa group founder, Alex Ambrozaitis (Band Director, Keyboards, and Vocals) along with group members James Pickens (Bass, and Back-up Vocals) Michael Alexander (Drums, and Back-up Vocals) AJ Ambrozaitis (2nd Sax, Keyboards, and Back-up vocals) and Virdick Pettit (Lead Sax). In 2001 Europa recorded and released their 1st CD, titled “One”. The following year they received an outstanding review from Smoothjazz.com, and did a tour throughout the midwest United States, which later included a radio promotional tour to Ontario, Canada . The following year, Anselmo “Chemo”Leal took over the Lead Sax spot. Anselmo is also a seasoned Percussion player, Drummer, and plays both Soprano, and Alto saxes. The Bass spot was temporary filled by Anselmos twin brother, Phillip Leal. In 2003-2004 Europa began recording their 2nd CD, titled “Elements”. James rejoined the unit at the begining of 2005. In 2005 Europa added the vocal talents of Alvin Gertman.
With over 75 shows and a tour with Drummer Will McGowen to Europe, the group started grooming their Party Jazz Sound. At the end of 2006, Alvin went on tour with Blues Great Mel Waiters. The vocal spot was then filled by RG Dean. Europa’s original drummer was replaced in the Fall of 2008 by Drummer Nate Crawford. At the beginning of 2009, Saxplayer Onel Jimenez replaced Anselmo Leal. Nate and Onel come to give Europa a new, cool, party Jazz sound for 2009 and beyond.
Thru the years, Europa have shared the stage with Jazz greats Chris Botti, Eddie Baucus & Pieces of a Dream, Kyle Turner, Strunz & Farah, Peter White, Brian Culberson, Joe Posada, Michael Linginton, Stacy Knights, Freddie Ravel, and many more.
The “Elements” CD was reconfigured in 2009 to feature vocalist RG Dean, Sax player Onel Jimenez and drummer Nate Craford, and also features the Latin Jazz styles of California drummer Rick Zavala, on one of it’s new tracks. Europa is also starting to put together their 3rd CD for a 2010 release.
