Peruvian director Catherine Pirotta will be busy the upcoming year directing her new film, “The Secret of Casa Matusita,” about a legendary haunted house in Lima, Peru.
An American-Peruvian co-production, the filming will take place in Lima and Los Angeles. Production is set to start in January 2013.
Produced by Delaware Pictures, the cast will include renowned American actors. Among the names rumored to be part of the production are Martin Sheen, Danny Glover and John Savage.
Pirotta’s previous film “Dreamkiller” played theatrically in the U.S. and was recently acquired to air in Peru, on Frecuencia Latina. “Dreamkiller” won best supporting young actress (Diandra Newlin) at the 32nd Annual Young Artist Award in 2011.
In the film, “The Secret of Casa Matusita,” an American journalist is hired to pen an investigative article about Casa Matusita, one of the top ten most famous haunted places in the world. He and his wife temporarily move into the location in Lima, Peru, and bizarre events start developing, gradually transforming them until they ultimately discover that true hell lies within one’s self.
About the film, Pirotta says: “It explores the desires, passions and inner demons that everyone has and are hiding under a harmless mask, but that if we let them take control of our lives, they can eventually lead us to the total loss of oneself, to our own ‘hell…’”
