A young man who is eligible for the new deferred action policy announced by the Obama Administration last month is being held in Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach. Despite being eligible for the DREAM Act, Cipriano Toledo may be deported to Venezuela unless the community comes out to support him.
Toledo (A# 892-10-282) has been held in Broward Transitional Center for the past month. Despite being eligible for the new policy, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has continued to hold him there. A hopeful young man who attended East Ridge High School in Clermont, Toledo hoped to attend Florida Gulf Coast University. He was accepted, but was unable to attend due to the legal and financial difficulties associated with his status.
Broward is run by GEO, a private prison corporation that contracts with ICE to hold immigrant detainees. The National Immigration Forum estimates that the cost of detaining a person is about $166 per night.
The National Immigrant Youth Alliance is demanding that ICE release Toledo. We have begun collecting petitions through DreamActivist.org and asking supporters to make calls to ICE.

Well as this young man I would like to say thank you to everybody who signed the petition and helped with my release. To the person who wrote the comment above all I have to say to you is 1) My family and I didn’t come here illegally. 2) I was brought to this country at age 6 and I’m sure you’re smart enough to know that at that age I didn’t have a choice in coming or not. 3) My family came here because of political problems back in our country and if you had the slightest clue to what my family has gone through you wouldn’t be saying half the things you are. 4) I will keep you and the rest of the people who have the same thoughts as you in my prayers because you really have no idea what you are saying when you say things like that.
It’s irritating to me that Venezuelans, who lost control of their democracy to the socialists due to uncontrolled immigration of foreigners, now want to repeat this problem in the USA. Shame on you, parece que nunca aprenden. With all due sympathy to this young man, if you don’t come here legally, you have no business here. Adios!
